Armstrong Update 4-28-2016

Greetings Armstrong Parents!

 

               Testing is over! The kids have done such a great job and we are very proud of them.  Also, our program is tonight at 6:30 in the Wilson Auditorium! We look forward to showing everyone what we’ve been working so hard on. The 5th grade will be gone 3 days next week and we only have 15 school days left! We can make it!

 

 FYIs and Reminders:

 

-          The Moose and Rabbits will be leading Celebrations tomorrow at 7:55in the gym.  The Thunder and Crayons will be leading Rendezvous on Monday, May 2nd at 7:55 in the gym.

 

-          Staff Appreciation is April 27th – May 3rdPlease see attached flyer for more information.

 

-          There will be no Early Release Friday in May but May 6th will be a Spirit Day. Your Armstrong can wear a Mayo spirit shirt with regular uniform bottoms on this day. Since no inclement weather days were used this year, the last day of school will be Tuesday May 17th.

 

-          Returning Mayo Students – If your child is a 4th grade Armstrong and planning on returning to Mayo next year and you haven’t already turned in your form, please stop by the office to fill one out or print the attached one. 

 

-          The book fair will be coming to Mayo May 2nd through the 6th and will be a Buy One Get One sale. There is also a coin war going on in the library that will benefit All for Books. Please see attached flyers for details! 

 

-          The Armstrongs will take their final SRI and SMI tests sometime between May 2ndand May 17th.  These will be the last tests they will have to take this year! 

 

Volunteer Breakfast- Each year we like to honor those people who graciously give their time to volunteer at Mayo.  If you have volunteered in any way, shape, or form this year you are invited to our Volunteer Breakfast on May 13th at 7:30 A.M. in the Mayo Library. We appreciate all your hard work! This will be followed by the Lifeskills Awards at 8:15 A.M.

 

Armstrong Program – The Armstrong Program is TONIGHT at 6:30PM. We would like participating Armstrongs to be at school by 6:00 P.M. at the latest. If you are a singer or dancer with no speaking part then you need to be dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans (and shoes that are comfortable to dance in).   All students with speaking parts will have a costume here (unless they were directed by Ms. Molina to bring some of their costume from home). Hope to see everyone there!

 

4th Grade Field Study- The 4th grade will be attending the Flight Night Kite Festival at TU on Friday May 6th from 11-1pm. This is in conjunction with Tulsa Regional STEM alliance. They will be completing a curriculum about flight prior to the festival and each student will be creating their own kite to bring with them.

 

5th Grade Promotion – 5th Grade Promotion is scheduled for Thursday, May 12th at 6:30 PM. We will be holding the promotion in the Wilson Auditorium with more details to come closer to the day

 IMPORTANT 5TH GRADE INFORMATION:

 

-Our last meeting was yesterday and the meeting notes have been sent out.  The rooming list, packing list, contacts list, bus assignments, and itinerary will be coming home today in Home N’ Backs. Be on the lookout!

Edison Update 4-28-2016

Good Afternoon!

 

We are planning one more last minute field study.  Next Friday, May 6th, we will visit Natural Falls State Park for an end of the year service project and celebration!  Please have your Edison wear their tie dye POW shirt, shorts and tennis shoes.  Your child will NOT need a sack lunch, we will provide lunch!  We are collecting stickers from each state park we visit and this will be our 6th one.  We visited five on the overnight!  This will allow the students to be eligible for a bison medallion through the "My Oklahoma State Park Adventures" passport program.

 

There will be no Early Release Friday in May.  The last day of school will be Tuesday May 17th.  Our last day of school committee is firming up plans for the day and we will pass that information on to you as soon as it's available.

The last day to turn in reading logs for Mayo Reads Millions will be May 5th.  Any readers that reached a million words will be entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire! All books from the Mayo Library are due next Friday, May 6th.   Edisons with all books turned in will take part in a massive poster Raffle. Posters will be placed around the library and students with all books turned in can put their name in for their favorite poster.

Einstein Update 4-28-2016

 

Einstein News!                 

April 28, 2016

 

 

Our field study scheduled for tomorrowFriday, April 29th is rescheduled due to and 80% chance of storms. We will go to Whiteside next Friday, May 6.  Your child will need to plan on having a Mayo lunch or lunch from home tomorrowWe will still provide a special lunch for the Einsteins on May 6th. Einsteins should wear any Mayo Spirit Shirt and uniform bottoms of your choice.  We plan to leave Mayo at 10:00 and will return at 2:00. We will use Frisbees, footballs, bubbles and soccer balls to see what happens with them in the wind. If you would like to send a kite with your Einstein, you may! We cannot promise that it will survive the day in order to be returned to you J. If you would like to join us, please let your child’s homebase teacher know.  Parents will need to bring a sack lunch for themselves.  This trip is for Einsteins and their caregivers only.  Please make other arrangements for all siblings.  

 

Monday, May 2 will be the last PAL. This PAL does not need to be returned.

If you were unable to attend conferences, please make an appointment to see your child’s literacy/math teacher in order to review and sign your child’s MAP scores.  You may have a copy of your child’s test scores in their homework folder, if so, please sign and return ASAP.

 

The book fair will be coming to Mayo May 2nd through the 6thand will be a Buy One Get One sale. There is also a coin war going on in the library that will benefit All for Books. Please see attached flyers for details!

The Shoots (2nd grade) will take their SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) test next week.  This is a reading assessment that measures the level of a students comprehension.  We will be showing them a Powerpoint explaining how to be successful in taking this test.

 

All library books are due on May 6.

 

 

Summer School Opportunity:  Tulsa Public Schools offers a summer school program for all students entering grades 1-6.  If you need an application please let your child’s homebaseteacher know.  Your child’s teacher may be contacting you to recommend this program as well.  Completed forms are due by April 29.  

Celebrations-The Mighty Moose and Radiant Rabbits will be on stage tomorrow.

 

Rendezvous-Monday, May 2nd-Thunder and Crayon families will be on stage.

Kite Festival, May 6th for 4th Graders

Dear 4th grade parents,

Our fifth graders will be gone for their annual fifth grade trip May 4-6. The fourth graders have been selected to build kites and participate in the city wide kite festival at TU May 6th from 11-2, parents welcome. We will be walking over and enjoying a picnic while we are there. Your student will need a sack lunch in a disposable bag, I have attached a sack lunch request form that we need back TOMORROW
It is also going home with your 4th grader today. If we do not receive it back we will assume your child does not need a lunch and one will not be ordered for them. I apologize for late notice as we just found out we get to participate and we are still working out details for our time with just the fourth graders. Einstein Update 4-25-2016

Hello Einstein Families!

 

We are closely monitoring the weather for our Wind Day Field Study at Whiteside Park on Friday, April 29th.  There is currently a 40% chance of scattered storms during the day on Friday.  We will make our final decision and let you know on Thursday.  We hope we will be able to go!  If we decide the chance is too high to go this Friday, we will plan to go Friday, May 6th10:00- 2:00.  

 

The Second-Year Einsteins will begin the final MAP Testing session Tuesday, April 26th.  We will test Tuesday thru Thursday this week and then do make-up testing Tuesday, May 3.  Each homebase will test on two days during this testing session.  Please make sure your Einstein eats a good breakfast and gets plenty of rest.

Goodall Update 4-21-2016

Remember that we will be taking our group photo tomorrow,Friday, April 22.  Please have your child wear their overnight t-shirt with regular Mayo bottoms.   We will take our group photo in front of Mayo for the yearbook.

 

We still  have some lost items in the Goodall area.  If you are missing something, please look in the bucket in the hallway outside our area.
