Goodall Update 3-30-2017

March 30, 2017

Don’t forget tonight is Math Night!!-Please join us for an exciting community night at Mayo on Thursday, March 30th.  There will be lots of math activities to help with math concepts for your child.  We hope you will join us!

We are going to have to reschedule the Goodall program due to a scheduling conflict.  We are looking at dates now and we will let you know as soon as possible. We will continue to practice our songs and if your child has a speaking part, this will allow for a little extra practice.  As always, thank you for being flexible! Below is the link to the songs we will be learning.

REPORT CARDS WENT HOME TODAY!  Please check your Goodall’s backpack or stack of papers for them.

Spelling test tomorrow for Shoots.  No spelling this week for Roots.

Please remember to follow drop off procedures in the morning.  If you are dropping off your child, you must park your car in the lot and walk them in or let them out in the front of the building (this is the drop off zone).  We have seen several parents letting students out in the parking lot and in the bus zone.  This is very dangerous.  Following our procedures helps your child understand why they are important. Procedures keep us safe!! Thank you!

Even though we are not sending homework regularly, students should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes each and practicing their addition and subtraction math facts.

This newsletter was also sent in email form.   If you did not receive it, please let your child’s homebase teacher know so that we may add you to our distribution list.

Einstein Update 3-30-2017

Einstein News                                                          March 23, 2017

This week we have enjoyed our visits from EMSA, a chiropractor and Dr. Brent Wakefield (family practice doctor and Mayo dad!). We will wrap up our week with a visit from a dental hygienist who happens to be a Mayo grandma! Next week, we will transition into talking about the properties of Spring and how animals/plants needs change in the Spring.

First and foremost, thank you for all the support amidst the news of budget cuts coming to TPS next year. Educators would love if you could please fill out the survey released by TPS. http://www.tulsaschools.org/survey It is due by 6p.m. tonight. While taking this survey please aware of a couple of things: 1. When it mentions class sizes going up 1 or 2 students, it means changing the ratio of students per teacher. Last year this caused the Armstrong area to go from 6 certified teachers to 4 certified teachers. This changed our classes from 20 students to 30 students. 2. We have attached a flow-chart of administration roles in TPS, this is just for you to be aware of the positions that are at our Education Service Center. Remember, your opinion really does matter. https://www.tulsaschools.org/1_Administration/_documents/pdf/OrganizationalChart.pdf

Report Cards come home today! If you have any questions about your Einstein’s report card, please talk to their homebase teacher.

Extra Clothes!  Please make sure that your Einstein has a full change of clothes in their cubby.  Bathroom, lunch and outside accidents happen!  Please include pants, shirts, socks and underwear.  If possible, an extra pair of shoes would also be appreciated. We do not have extra clothing to provide for your Einsteins when these accidents occur.

Math Night is tonight!!! Mayo will host a math night! It will be held in the library and cafeteria. Play fun math games that can be recreated at home, learn strategies that can help your child with math, learn how to use technology to enhance your child’s math skills and make and take activities to use at home!

As always, if you have any questions, please email your child’s homebase teacher.

Edison Update 3-30-2017

Hello Edison Parents:

Today’s letter is jammed packed with lots of information that is very important, please read all the way through.

First and foremost, thank you for all the support amidst the news of budget cuts coming to TPS next year. Educators would love if you could please fill out the survey released by TPS. It is due by 6p.m. tonight. While taking this survey please aware of a couple of things: 1. Mayo is excited to host a Family Math Night TONIGHT, March 30th!  The event will be from 6:30-7:30 in the Mayo Cafeteria and Library.  We will have activities for all elementary ages and ideas/games you can enjoy and then play at home with your child(ren).  We hope to see you there!  A flyer is attached.

**********You will notice in the dates below that the Edisons will be taking the OCCTs April 4, 5, 11, and 12.  These are the mandated state tests.  We have a tradition at Mayo to help put the kids at ease each morning that they test.  We ask parents (and other friends and family members) to write four notes (one for each day of testing) that the student gets to read before they test.  They LOVE hearing your encouraging words!  The notes do not have to be long...just something that will make your child smile and relax.  Please put each note in an envelope (or fold them) and label with your child's name and which day to give it to them (day 1, day 2, etc.)  If they are not date specific, just put their name on the outside.  We need these notes by TOMORROW, March 31 so we have time to organize them in their testing folders.  Please keep this a secret from your child...we want them to be surprised!**********

REMINDER!!!! DUE TOMORROW!!!! We have received very few notes and your students really appreciate reading your encouraging words!!

Also, we will be sending home your student’s Report of Student Progress today! Please look for it in their backpacks. It is very important that you see these. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s homebase teacher.

Continue to hold on tight…the next two months might get bumpy!  As you can see by the calendar below, there is a lot happening in the Edison area and at Mayo in general.  Please try to read and refer to the weekly emails and other correspondence from Mr. Joslin for important dates and reminders.

Dates for your calendar:

March 30 – Family Math Night at Mayo
March 31 – Testing notes due
April 4/5 – Edisons take state Reading Test (Super important to be on time and well-fed!!)

Armstrong Update 3-23-2017

Hello Armstrong parents!

This week marks the beginning of the final quarter of the school year!  Third quarter report cards will be sent home next week.

The Armstrong program is on Tuesday night at 6:30pm! All students will be on stage—whether or not they have a speaking part—so we would love to see you all there to support them.  If you have any colonial costumes/clothing, furniture, or props, let us know if we can borrow them for the program – we would be very appreciative of any help!

If your child has a speaking part, he or she will need to wear colonial style clothing.  Attached to this email is a cheat sheet to help you dress your children appropriately with clothing they already have in their closets.

Next Thursday night is Family Math Night! Check out the attached flyer for more information.  Join us for some fun math activities to enjoy with your kids!

The semester winding down means that testing time is coming up. All 4th and 5th graders will be testing April 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th, with only 5th graders testing on the 7th and 14th.  The 7th and 14th will also be available for any makeup testing.  With those dates in mind, please do not schedule any appointments for your child that would interfere with testing. It’s vital that everyone is on time and present, especially before lunch.

We have sent home forms for the overnight. Please fill those out and return them ASAP so we can make the necessary preparations.  If your child did not bring the forms home or they were misplaced, there are electronic copies attached.  We need the overnight forms back by April 7thand the t-shirt forms back by March 31st. If you intend to join us, parents are responsible for their own (minimal) entry fees to our various activities. Please be sure to indicate the activities you’ll be joining us for on the form.

Since it seems like warm weather is here to stay, we will be dismissing outside again starting tomorrow!

You should have received an email from Mr. Joslin earlier this week with an important survey link regarding our partnership school opportunity.  It was included in his letter in the Mayo Times newsletter.  PLEASE TAKE TIME TO TAKE THIS SURVEY by tomorrow, March 24 and let us know what things are important to you as we work on our vision. Here is the link to take the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdT34RHeIA1-08i-KOaspdXvWxQfJdHjuSezEcfpXeWaW2uHg/viewform
