Hello everyone!
In today's Home and Back you will find your child's latest SRI results. We are proud of the growth we saw and look forward to seeing continued growth. Remember, your child should be reading every night for a minimum of 20 minutes. This can include reading aloud, being read to, or reading to a sibling or pet! In addition, every Edison should be working on their multiplication facts through the sixes. We are also focusing on telling time and figuring elapsed time (the difference between two times). Please work on this with your child. Questions you could ask might include something similar to this: If it takes us 20 minutes to get to Grandma's house, what time should we leave if we want to get there at 5:00? If it takes 30 minutes to cook dinner and we want to eat at 7:00, what time should we begin cooking?
Your child should have brought home a copy of the Preamble to the Constitution this week. They need to be able to recite this, from memory, with expression, by this Monday, November 16th.
We have added a field study to our calendar! We will be visiting the Museum of Osteology in OKC on Tuesday, December 8th. We will leave school at 8:00 and return by 2:50. If your child needs a sack lunch, you need to return the attached form (click here for form) by next Friday, November 20th. If you would like to attend with us, please plan on meeting us there at 10:00 (or you can follow the bus from Mayo). Admission for parents is $5. Don't forget your child will get to wear their tie dyed shirt that day!
It’s almost time for Mayo’s annual Thanksgiving community day! If you are new to Mayo, we typically have 2-3 Community Days per year where the students stay in their family groups for a half a day to a whole day doing community building activities related to a certain topic. Our Thanksgiving Community day will be on Tuesday, November 24th. We will be working on Thanksgiving crafts/activities in our Family groups as well as eating a traditional Thanksgiving lunch together- turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and cranberry sauce. You are welcomed and encouraged to join your child(ren) for lunch on that day, RSVP’s are required if you are eating from the cafeteria. Attached is the last chance RSVP form; make sure you turn it in, it’s due tomorrow! Bring it to the office or return it in your Home and Back tomorrow. Lunch times vary depending on your child’s family teacher and the schedule is attached along with the RSVP form.
