Goodall Update 4-27-2017

April 27, 2017

One Last Field Study!
Goodalls will be taking a trip to Woolaroc Museum as the culmination of their OERB unit.  This will take place on April 28th.  Buses will leave Mayo at 8:45 and return about 2:30.  Your student may wear jeans with their Goodall overnight shirt (maroon with the “Wander” quote).  If you cannot locate the overnight shirt, they should wear a red uniform shirt.  If you did not turn in a form or did not inform a teacher, your child needs to bring a sack lunch from home. If you are planning to check your child out to ride home with you, you must sign them out with a Goodall teacher.  We will all have a master list, so you may sign out with any one of us.

MicroSociety:
Our final project for the year will be Goodall MicroSociety.  MicroSociety is a way to bring real-world experiences into the classroom and further our study of goods/services, wants/needs, income/scarcity, etc.  The Goodalls have been  learning about Economics.  They have created their businesses and supply notes have been sent home.  This event will take place next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (May 2nd , 3rd  and 4th ).  On May 2nd and 3rd, the students will sell their products to their classmates.  On Thursday, May 4th, parents and guests are invited to “shop til you drop”!  We will even give you $10.00 to shop with!  Please have your child’s supplies at school by Monday, unless it is food, which may be brought daily.

Goodalls will be taking a trip to Woolaroc Museum as the culmination of their OERB unit.  This will take place on April 28th.  Buses will leave Mayo at 8:45 and return about 2:30.  Students will need a sack lunch for that day.  Please let us know as soon as possible if your student will bring a sack lunch, or will need one from the Cafeteria.  We will have more info about any needed Parent Volunteers next week.

MicroSociety:
Our final big project for the year will be Goodall MicroSociety.  MicroSociety is a way to bring real-world experiences into the classroom and further our study of goods/services, wants/needs, income/scarcity, etc.  In the upcoming weeks, Goodalls will be learning about Economics.  They will be working in small groups to create a “business” that will sell a good or provide a service.  Each group will be required to submit a business proposal.  Once these are decided, we will send a letter home to let parents know what supplies students will need.  We’ll be encouraging them to choose businesses that won’t require expensive supplies.  Students will plan, price, and advertise their businesses.  We will set up booths/tables for Goodalls to shop each other’s booths.  On the final day, of Micro, we will invite parents to come and shop!

Family:
Our last day of Family will be April 26th.  This is generally a Family Teacher party.  Teachers would love a written note from your Goodall, telling them how much they enjoyed their time together this year, and what was fun.
