TULSA, Okla. – After a successful launch to the 2015-16 school year with a teacher in every classroom, Tulsa Public Schools has shifted its hiring focus to filling vacant support positions.
The district has openings available in child nutrition, transportation and operations support positions. Vacancies include 36 bus drivers, 23 cafeteria assistants, five cooks, 14 custodians and 19 maintenance workers. In maintenance, there is a need for licensed plumbers, electricians and HVAC technicians.
“Our district serves nearly 40,000 students each day, and that takes many people including our valued support professionals. We currently have a number of positions available,” said Deborah A. Gist, TPS superintendent. “For example, bus drivers play such an important role in our district delivering our students to school safely and on time each day. Our students can’t learn if they’re not in school! We recently raised the starting pay for our drivers to $11.21 per hour. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves kids and needs flexible hours.”
