Einstein News April 20, 2017
Curriculum Update: This week we have been talking about bugs and characteristics of bugs! Ask your Einstein what their favorite bug is. What are the needs of bugs? What resources are available to help us learn about bugs? (i.e. internet, books, videos, experts, etc.) We will continue our study on bugs and look closer at bees and ants and how they work together as a community to meet their needs.
Summer Birthdays: If your Einstein has a birthday during the summer and they would like to celebrate with their homebase by bringing a treat, please contact your child’s homebase teacher so they can schedule a day to celebrate!
MAYO Neighborhood Applications If anyone is interested in applying to Mayo for a KG-5th grade spot the application window is Monday 4/10/17 – Friday 4/28/17. Parents will need to fill out a “paper” application at the Enrollment Center during the application window. The application is called “Neighborhood School Transfers”. Parents who wish to apply and have their child’s name placed on a waiting list for the 2017-18 school year must attend one of the tours listed below. Tours are for adults only and a reservation must be made in advance.
Einstein End of Year Bash will be Wednesday, May 17, 2017. We will picnic at a park, have a special lunch and more! Parents are invited to attend any/all of this fun event. As with any Mayo field study, this day is for Einsteins and their parents/grown ups only! Please make other arrangements for all siblings.
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) – At the end of this week, second year Einsteins will complete MAP testing sessions to assess Reading and Mathematics skills. When taking the MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. This is the last time second year Einsteins will have to take this test this year. We will share these scores with you once they are made available. Please make sure your Einstein eats a nice healthy breakfast and goes to bed early to ensure they do their best!
As always, if you have any questions, please email your child’s homebase teacher.
