Hello Edison Families!
Some of you will be receiving letters in today's Home and Back regarding your child's Reading Sufficiency Act plan. Based on the scores from this week's MAP Reading test, some students are now exempt from the State threat of automatic retention if they don't pass the OCCT Reading test in April. Others have still not met the minimum requirements. For these students, we need the paper signed and returned to school as quickly as possible. These papers will only come home if your child was placed on the Tulsa Public Schools RSA Plan at the beginning of the year. Next week, we will send home the results of the MAP Reading and Math tests, as well as the latest SRI scores for ALL Edisons. Please let us know if you have any questions. We are pleased with the growth that we are seeing!
In math, we are working on ordering fractions using fraction strips. We changed up our Number of the Day routine to include some different skills. One of the skills they are working on (and that they NEED to know how to do for the OCCT) is making change from a five dollar bill. They have two different strategies that we have worked on in class and we would appreciate you practicing this at home. We are also working on graphing data and drawing conclusions based on that data.
We have CHICKS! In science, we are continuing our unit on heredity and the behavior of organisms. Next week, we will begin studying how our mealworms will react when they are exposed to different stimuli. Ask your Edison how many chicks have hatched and how they feel about the mealworms. We will continue to watch the chicks grow until the end of the school year.
Thanks to those of you who helped your child get their program costume to school today! We have been rehearsing this week and will be ready to perform for you next Tuesday, March 1st at 6:30p.m. The performance will be in the Wilson Cafetorium. Please have your child come to the Edison area that evening at 6:00. Parents and friends can go directly to Wilson. We will have signs up throughout the school to direct you. Also, please bring a blanket to sit on during the program (like a picnic). We want everyone to be able to see their child and the Cafetorium doesn't have enough room for a large amount of chairs and room for us to perform. We will have a few chairs set up in the back for those who can't get up and down from the floor and for the elderly.
We will be going on a field study to the Port of Catoosa and the Will Rogers Museum on Thursday, March 10th. If your child needs a sack lunch from the cafeteria for this trip, please return the attached Sack Lunch Request Form https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9tK7eFBM-uPblI4X0ttZ2k3Um8/edit?usp=docslist_api&filetype=msword by next Wednesday, March 2nd.
Summer School Opportunity: Tulsa Public Schools offers a summer school program for all students entering grades 1-6. We encourage you to seriously consider this opportunity. Please fill out the application from last week’s home-and-back. If you need an application, please check in the office. Completed forms are due by April 29.
March 2nd will be Wacky Wednesdayin recognition of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and Read Across America. We have many plans in place for this Community Day and hope the kids will enjoy them. The kids can wackify their Mayo uniforms by wearing it backwards with crazy socks, mix match shoes, crazy hair and more. After checking in with homebase, students will go to family at 8:15 to start this fun day! We will have an all school picnic lunch from 11:45-12:15. We will be eating on the front lawn. Our day will end with an “Oh the Places You’ll Go” balloon release around 1:20. After our balloon release, students will go back to homebase for the remainder of the day. We hope your student is looking forward to this great day!
