Good afternoon!
Tomorrow is a Mayo Spirit Day and a TPS Early Release Day. We will dismiss students at 1:00p.m.
We had an awesome presentation today from Lyric Theater of Oklahoma. They presented The Sound of Music Interactive. Some of the students got to be participants in parts of the performance. Ask your child about it!
We made it through another round of SRI (Reading) testing this week and the 100th day of school! We are super impressed by the growth the students showed!! We will also take the MAP Reading and Math tests at the end of the month. When we receive those results, we will send an update with all of the February testing included.
Friendship parties will be during family on Thursday, February 11th. If your child would like to pass out Valentine Cards to their Edison friends, please have them just sign their name on the cards and put 58 in a baggie labeled "Edisons." They will also want a separate baggie with 14 cards for their Mayo Family. Feel free to attach a small piece of candy, sticker, etc. to the card if you would like.
Curriculum Update:
We finished the book Because of Winn Dixie. Most students are still working on finishing their accompanying packet of activities and we hope to finish those by next week. We watched the movie last Friday and are comparing and contrasting the two. The next novel we will read is Class President which aligns with our current curriculum component of the Power of a Nation. In Social Studies, the students will be casting a ballot every few days for a different topic and will work on graphing and interpreting the data.
In math we have introduced a new language called "Fractioneze". There is one important rule when you speak this language...ask your child what it is! We will continue our work with fractions for several weeks. Your child should be working on memorizing their multiplication facts at home (if they haven't done so already).
Science is full of exciting projects right now! We are studying heredity and the ways that organisms are alike and different. Each tribe has been working on a "one-pager" report over a specific animal. They are now converting these paper reports to a digital presentation. We also have several "friends" growing in our classrooms. Your Edison should be able to tell you more about them!
