Armstrong Update 9-15-2016

Greetings Armstrong Parents!

We hope that you and your Armstrong have had a great week. We’ve had a lot happening in our area and are impressed with how well the 4th graders are adapting to their new area. Please read through the entire newsletter because new dates have been added to the calendar and there is important information about at-home math practice as well as book orders and picture day.

Strings and Band – Strings and Band sign-up forms are due Friday September 16th! We have had a large number of students show interest in this program, therefore if your sign-up sheets are not back by this date, it is likely that there will not be a place for your child.

Book Orders – Homebase teachers will be placing their book orders this weekend, please make sure that if your child wants to order any books that the orders are turned in by Friday September 16th.

Math Update – All Armstrong students are in the process of being set up with an account on www.prodigygame.com. This is a website that allows the students to log in and practice math at home if they would like, and it also tracks student work so that their math teacher is able to keep track of their progress. The students have been using their accounts during our center time; half of the Armstrongs have logged in during class time and the other half will do so next week. We encourage your child to play this game at home for extra practice. We will be sending home their log in information over the next week.

Armstrong Typing Update - Armstrongs have been practicing their typing with games.  They can continue to practice at home if they wish.  The website is mayo.tulsaschools.org.
Select the Library tab.  Then choose TPS Typing Resources to the left of the screen.  A list of games will pull up.  If they practice at home, ask that they keep their fingers in the home key positions.

With cursive, some kids are choosing to bring home extra cursive sheets to practice.  This is not a required homework.

5th Grade Parents – Health and Wellness will host a parent preview of the student HIV/AIDS presentation and the Human Development and Growth presentation for grades 5. These presentations are required viewing for all 5th grade students in the TPS district and will be shown later this school year, date TBD. The preview will be held at the ESC, room 436 on Wednesday, September 21, 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Important Reminders
-          Armstrong after school dismissal/pick-up is on the playground at the newly painted map of the United States. Please make sure to sign your child out with their homebase teacher (Mrs. Smith’s homebase will be with Mrs. Lyles). If there is inclement weather, the Armstrongs will wait for pick-up in their area upstairs. We appreciate your patience and flexibility with the new dismissal procedures.

-          Cell phones are not allowed in the Armstrong Area. While we understand the need for your child to have a cell phone with them for contact with after school activities, we require all cell phones to be checked in with Mrs. Jennings in the mornings before class. She will keep them safe during the day so they will not become a distraction. Please remind your child(ren) of this policy if they carry a cell phone to school with them. Thank you for your cooperation!
