Armstrong Update 4-14-2016

Greetings Armstrong Parents!

Wow! We are so glad the first week of testing is almost over! The Armstrongs have done a great job and we are very proud! We have also started practicing our play so it’s a crazy time for all of us.  We like to stay busy!  Please read below to find out what else is going on and make sure to read all the way through for some new added dates.

FYIs and Reminders:

-          The Stars and Dolphins will be leading our Celebrations this Friday at 7:55 A.M.

-          The 5th grade is having their last fundraiser this coming Monday, April 18th! We will be having a Pasta Night at Tallgrass from 5-8:30 P.M.  Please see the attached flyer.

-          Summer School enrollment has started, please check with the office for more information.

-          Please remember to return your home ‘n backs to the tubs in the cafeteria or the front lobby. Please make sure to get these returned every week before Thursday morning.  There is a tub in the office and one in the cafeteria where you can drop them.  Thanks so much!

-          Don’t forget to check the lost & found and the lunchbox table on a regular basis!

-          Dismissal Reminder – If you pick your student up, you should always enter through the North cafeteria door and exit through the South cafeteria door.  This allows for the safety of everyone and is not meant to inconvenience anyone.  Thanks for your cooperation and consideration.

Armstrong Program – The Armstrong Program is scheduled for Thursday, April 28th at 6:30PM. Students have begun working this week and will be working hard every afternoon in the next two weeks. The program will be performed twice on the 28th.  The students will do their dress rehearsal in the Wilson auditorium for the whole school towards the end of the day and then a second time that evening (exact time TBD).  Parents may come to either (or both) performances.  Hope to see everyone there!

*We are asking for any and all donations of materials to help with costume-making, our show is Western themed*

*The Props committee is requesting any large cardboard boxes or cardboard pieces and any bedsheets that can be donated*

State Testing – Our state testing window this year is Monday April 11th through Friday April 29th. Below are the remaining days that we will be testing as a large group. We will be testing in the mornings, starting at 8:15/30. Please make sure that your child is on time to school during those days, gets good sleep the night before, and has a good breakfast the morning of.

-          Friday 4/15 – 5th Grade Reading (Part II)

-          Tuesday 4/19 – 4th Grade Math (Part I and II)

-          Thursday 4/21 – 5th Grade Math (Part I and II)

-          Tuesday 4/26 – 5th Grade Science (Part I and II)

-          Wednesday 4/27 – 5th Grade Social Studies (Part I and II)

One of the things that we do in the Armstrong area to lift students’ spirits and take some pressure off of testing is write encouragement notes to our students. We also let students write letters of encouragement to each other and we love for parents to join in! This is nothing fancy; you can simply write a little note to let your child know that you are thinking about them on the day of the test. Before we test each day, we will let students read their notes. To make this process a little easier, we are going to have folders set up outside of Mrs. Smith’s room for you to place your letters in. There will be one set of folders for Hewitt, Najera and Moore homebases and one set of folders for Smith, Guss and Molina homebases. The folders will be labeled by test (ex. 4th Reading Pt. 1, 5thReading Pt. 1, 4th Math, etc.). Just put your letter in the folder of whichever test you are wanting to encourage your child on. If your child is a 4th grader, you will need to write 3 notes, as there are 3 days of testing. If your child is a 5thgrader, you will need to write 5 notes  as there are 5 days of testing. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Moore (mooreco2@tulsaschools.org) or Mrs. Smith (embryel@tulsaschools.org).

5th Grade Promotion – 5th Grade Promotion is scheduled for Thursday, May 12th at 6:30 PM. We will be holding the promotion in the Wilson Auditorium with more details to come closer to the day. Thank you to the 4th grade parents who have already volunteered to help! If you are willing to help and haven’t told us, please contact Mrs. Moore (mooreco2@tulsaschools.org) or Mrs. Smith (embryel@tulsaschools.org)

Early Release- Since May is the last month of school there will NOT be an early release day.  Please make sure to mark your calendars and be prepared to get your student at the normal time.

Chess Tournament- Mayo will be sponsoring a chess tournament on April 23rd.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.

 IMPORTANT 5TH GRADE INFORMATION:

-Our last meeting is Tuesday April 26th at 6:30PM in Mrs. Moore’s area.

-We have been working on rooming assignments and will hopefully have those finished by next week.  Due to the number of students coming without a parent there will be some rooms that will have 7 people in them instead of 6. The teachers will be taking some students into their rooms, but there are just too many that are coming without parents to put them all with the teachers.  Thanks so much to the parents who marked on their paper that they are willing to take an extra kid.  If you did so, then you will most likely have 7 to a room (most likely 3 adults and 4 students). We appreciate you making this trip the best it can be for our kids!

-If you haven’t turned in your food request sheet for Hard Rock please do so ASAP.

-Don’t forget Pasta Night on Monday April 18th! Please sign up to help! This is our last fundraiser so let’s make it a great one!

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to email your child’s homebase teacher, myself Mrs. Moore (mooreco2@tulsaschools.org) or Mrs. Smith (embryel@tulsaschools.org). Have a wonderful weekend!
