Armstrong Update 4-13-2017

Greetings Armstrong Families!
We are quickly winding down to the end of the year and we have a lot of important events coming up as well as several date changes and/or event cancellations. Please read through the entire newsletter, I will try to keep it brief and to the point J

OCCT Testing – The majority of 4th Graders are finished with Testing. 5th Graders are completing their last test, the Science OCCT, tomorrow. They will be taking one part in the morning and the other part in the afternoon. Please make sure that your child has a good night’s rest, a filling breakfast and is at school on time and not picked up early.

Armstrong Program
-          Due to time constraints, a malfunctioning sound system and lack of availability of the Auditorium or Cafetorium in Wilson, we will be cancelling the Armstrong Program this school year. We very much apologize for those students who were invested and we apologize for any inconvenience to any families.
5th Grade Promotion
-          5th Grade Promotion is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16th in the Wilson Auditorium at 6:30PM.

-          Information about 5th Grade Memory Books will be sent home with the 5th graders on Monday. This is a treasured Mayo tradition, but is optional for those who want to participate.

-          4th Grade Parent Volunteers Needed! – If you are interested and willing to help coordinate the Promotion Reception please email Mrs. Smith (consists of picking up the cake, balloons, décor, paper goods and setting up the Cafeteria during the promotion. Yes, we do have a budget for this J)
Armstrong Overnight
-          DETAILED ITINERARY ATTACHED – This includes Armstrong Overnight Procedures, Bus Procedures, arrival and departure times from each location and when and what we will need parent help with. We will also have printed copies available the morning we leave to keep for your reference.

-          IF YOU ARE JOINING US – If you are planning on joining your child for this overnight, you MUST have turned in a TPS/Mayo Volunteer Form and passed the background check required. If you have not done so, please see Mrs. Jennings in the office ASAP.

-          RIDING THE BUS WITH US? – If you are planning on riding the bus with us, please email your child’s homebase teacher to let them know.

-          PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – If you are willing and able to help with some of the overnight preparations next Tuesday and/or Wednesday, please email Mrs. Smith. The following are things we will need help with, if a time is not listed that means it is flexible and can be done anytime throughout the day.
o   Tuesday April 18th – Parent Volunteers needed to label trash bags and put together packing information and materials.
o   Wednesday April 19th – Parent Volunteers needed to pick up groceries from Sam’s (41st and Sheridan) at 1PM and deliver to Mayo to be put in ice chests.
-          ICE CHESTS NEEDED – If you are able to loan any ice chests for us to use on our overnight, we would greatly appreciate it. Please email Mrs. Smith if you are able.

-          T-SHIRTS – If you ordered an Armstrong t-shirt, we will be passing those out Thursday night of the overnight. If you ordered a t-shirt and did not pay, we need your payment ASAP. We only ordered a certain amount, so unfortunately we will not have extra t-shirts available for sale.

-          If your child is typically a bus rider after school, please know that we will not be back to Mayo until about 4/4:30 Friday afternoon so you will need to make other arrangements.
