Edison Update 11-3-2016

Good afternoon Edison Families!

Yesterday, your student took their second Reading Inventory. We are so proud of the progress our students have made. Please congratulate them on their success. We will send home their results as soon as everyone is finished testing.

TOMORROW, November 4th, is Miles for Mayo Jog-a-thon, it is the Mayo Foundation's biggest fund raiser.  This year's theme is "Supporting Our Superheroes!" All funds raised will be used to pay for professional development and supplies for the Mayo teaching staff. Keep collecting pledges and donations!  Our goal is 100% participation in the Edison area!  Please see the attachment for information regarding returning envelopes and specifics for the day.  Jog-a-thon attire: Your student will be given a new Jog-a-thon t-shirt tomorrow morning. Please send your child in a Mayo shirt, athletic shorts/pants and tennis shoes. We will have your child change shirts when we pass them out.

We are still working with the district to correct our Reports of Student Progress. As soon as this issue is resolved we will send an e-mail letting you that we are sending them home. We appreciate your patience.

The Edison area is experiencing issues with theft from lockers. We are looking into the issue. While we figure this out please do NOT send any valuables to school, this includes: Pokemon cards/other trading cards, jewelry, or other important items. Please know that we are working our very hardest to solve this problem.

Mayo has a wonderful Thanksgiving tradition.  We love for parents and grandparents to join us for a Thanksgiving lunch the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (November 22nd).  The entire school spends the morning in a "Community Day." We participate in activities with our Mayo family related to being thankful.  To make lunch run smoothly, we must have an RSVP and payment returned for anyone who will be joining us.  Please find that form attached.  Also attached is the lunch invitation with the time that your child's family will eat lunch.  We will also take family pictures that day, as well as retakes for individual pictures (in uniform).

Some of our field study dates have changed and we want to make sure you are aware of the new dates.  On Thursday, December 1st, we will be going to the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore.  Then, on Tuesday, December 20th, we will go downtown to the Woody Guthrie Center and the new Central Library.  Please mark your calendars and let us know if you can join us!

We sent home an important paper today that needs to be returned ASAP.  The Elementary Parent-School Compact needs to be discussed with your child and both parent and student need to sign.

Also, SOME of your students will be bringing home a math packet today for extra practice with rounding numbers.  There is a note outlining the instructions and when the work should be returned.

November 4 - Jog-a-thon
November 11 - RSVP for Thanksgiving Lunch
November 22 - Thanksgiving Community Day
November 23-25 - Thanksgiving Break, no school
