Armstrong Update 10-28-2016

Greetings Armstrong Parents!
Welcome back from Fall Break. I hope you feel rested and ready to start the 2nd quarter of school.

Student-Led Conferences – Thank you to all the parents who came out to Student-Led conferences. We had a 73% attendance rate. If you missed conferences and would like an update on your student’s progress please email their home base teacher.

Crystal Bridges Field Study –We had a great time at Crystal Bridges this past Monday. The students spent the afternoon studying art and how it relates to perseverance. Thank you to all the volunteers who accompanied us on this fabulous field study.

Report Cards- Due to a schedule change report cards will be going home on November 1st instead of October 28th as previously stated in last week’s newsletter.

JOG-A-THON! – It's jog-a-thon time at Mayo!  Miles for Mayo, on Friday, November 4, is the Mayo Foundation's biggest fund raiser.  This year's theme is "Supporting Our Superheroes!" All funds raised will be used to pay for professional development and supplies for the Mayo teaching staff.

Middle School Visits- Over the next few weeks the 5th grade will be visited by both Carver and Edison Middle School. Parents are welcome to attend if they have any questions concerning these two schools.
-Carver Middle School will be visiting with the 5th .grade class on November 18th at 1:45 p.m.
-Edison Middle School will be visiting with the 5th grade class on November 14th at 8:30 a.m.

Book Orders- We will be sending home Scholastic book orders today. Please have them returned to your student’s home base teacher by the end of November

FIFTH GRADE:
-          Thoreau Shadow Day will be Wednesday November 30th. This day is set aside specifically for Mayo students to shadow with a Thoreau 6th grader to see what a day is like. This is a great opportunity to see what Thoreau has to offer and if it is the right fit for you and your child. You must call Thoreau to put your child’s name on the schedule for this day. You will need to drop your child off and pick them up from Thoreau on this day as well.

-          Fall Carnival is October 28th. We need as many 5th grade students and parents to sign up to help as we can get. Please contact Nicole Reeder if you are able to take a shift nreeder@lwsl-law.com

DATES TO REMEMBER:
Oct 28 – Family Fall Parties
Oct 28 – Fall Carnival (support the 5th grade trip!)
Nov 1 – Report Cards
Nov4 – Jog-a-thon

Please email your child’s homebase teacher if you have any questions or concerns!
