Edison Update 10-6-2016

Edison Families,
Remember, NO SCHOOL TOMORROW, Friday October 7th.  Teachers will be in conferences all day.
We had a great trip to the fair watching the herding dogs, stunt dogs, and participating in all of the activities.  Thank you to those who were able to attend with us.  It is nice for the groups to be small so you can see more things!

We had visits from the SPCA and Humane Society this week.  Evan, from the Humane Society, brought her friend Sherlock with her this morning!  He is a super cute, friendly dog who would love a forever home!  Both agencies appreciated the donations we gave them from the dog wash.  Thanks again for supporting our service learning project!
We are gearing up for our next field study to the Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma City next Friday, October 14th.  We will leave Mayo at 8am and return in time to dismiss students in the cafeteria. Please make sure your child is not late!  Our schedule is tight and we would hate to leave someone.  We have requested sack lunches from the cafeteria for all but a few Edisons whose parents let us know they are sending one for their child.  Your child should wear their Edison t-shirt and uniform bottoms.  Entrance fee to the museum for parents is $5.  If you plan on joining us, please make other arrangements for any siblings since this is a school trip.  Thank you!
Regarding curriculum:

Most students have a good grasp of place value to the hundred thousand place.  We are beginning to work on rounding numbers to the nearest ten, 2d and 3d shapes, and their attributes.  To help work on rounding, you could ask your child questions like: “What two tens does the number 33 come between?”  “Which of those tens is it closer to?”  Some students are still having a hard time with this so keep on working on this please!
