Goodall Update October 12, 2016

October 13, 2016
TOMORROW IS A SPIRIT DAY!  If your child has a shirt from the Goodall Overnight, please have them wear it tomorrow, with normal Mayo bottoms!!!    We’d like to take a picture.
***SHOOTS!!!  YOU HAVE A SPELLING TEST TOMORROW!!***
Lost Something??
We still have many “found” items that were left behind after our Overnight Trip.  They are up in the Goodall area.  If you’re missing a jacket, other clothing, towels, etc., please come and check.  Soon, we will bag them up and send them to charity.
Getting Messy and Having Fun with What Bugs You
We had some really great visitors this week!  On Tuesday, the OSU Master Gardeners came out and did a presentation with our students called “Spiders and Insects:  Friend or Foe?”  They learned facts about spiders and insects in the presentation.  They also made a Spider Hat, sorted facts and opinions about spiders, played Pollinator Tag, made a dirt cup snack with pudding and Oreos (complete with gummy worm), and played Bug-Go (like Bingo).  It was a fun and educational day!
Wednesday and Thursday, Robert Lewis (who you may remember as the storyteller from last year’s overnight!) came out and taught our students about clay.  He also guided them through the building/designing of a clay “pinch pot”.  Students will be decorating these before bringing them home after Student-Led Conferences.

A BIG THANK YOU!
Tomorrow is Ms. Tandy’s official last day at Mayo.  The Goodall teachers and students have enjoyed her stay and appreciated all her hard work and assistance.  If you see her tomorrow, please tell her thank you and let her know you wish her well on her journey to become a classroom teacher!!  I’m sure she’d also appreciate hugs and handshakes from students.
Teach Them Well, and Let Them Lead the Way
Student-Led Conferences are next week, on Monday, October 17th and Tuesday, October 18th, from 3:30-6:30.  No appointments are necessary, just come and see what your kiddos have been doing!  You’ll sign in with your child’s homebase teacher, and pick up your itinerary there.  We can’t wait to see you!
Jog-A-Thon
It’s time again for our annual Jog-A-Thon fundraiser, “Miles for Mayo”!  This year's theme is "Supporting Our Superheroes!" All funds raised will be used to pay for professional development and supplies for the Mayo teaching staff. Your child should have come home today with a pledge envelope.  Look inside of the envelope for a flyer with details about this fun event and start collecting pledges and donations now!
