Edison Update 9-17-15

Good Afternoon Edison Families,

We are super excited about our first being there experience tomorrow!  At Mayo, these experiences relate directly to our curriculum and enrich the learning that we do in the classroom.  As a result, each student is expected to attend.  Your child has a flyer on their back today explaining the details.  Remember to send a disposable sack lunch, unless it is noted on your child's flyer that you ordered a sack lunch from the cafeteria.

There are several items attached to this email.  First, if you have not returned the Talent Release form, please do so.  Click here to view it: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9tK7eFBM-uPazF3WTN6cUR3TzQ
Also, if you plan on attending any field studies this year, or volunteer in any way at the school, we need a Volunteer Background Check form filled out annually.  Finally, if you are in the market for more uniform pieces, C&J Uniforms is having a fall sale.

The Mayo Foundation is a wonderful organization that supports this school by financially supporting professional development opportunities for the teachers, and purchasing necessary items that benefit the entire school.  One way they raise funds is through a Jog-a-Thon.  The following is a message from the Foundation:

The Jog-a-Thon will be a fall event this year!  Mark your calendars for Friday, October 9 for  Miles for Mayo-Made in the Shade!  We will be raising funds to construct a shade shelter on the Mayo playground. Your child's pledge envelope will be in this week's Home and Back.  Look for the blue letter that is inside of the pledge envelope.  It has lots of important information about the event!  We hope you will help your child secure lots of pledges so that we can make our dream of a shady place on the playground come true this year!

We have some tentative Field Study dates that we would like to share with you.  We will be working to confirm these dates over the next several weeks.

Tuesday, October 20th - Downtown Tulsa (Woody Guthrie, Tulsa Glassblowing School, Guthrie Green, City Council)
Tuesday, December 15th - OKC (Capitol and Oklahoma Hall of Fame Museum)
Thursday, January 14th - Crystal Bridges Museum (Bentonville, AR)

At Mayo, we have Student-led Conferences.  Your child will get to lead you through what they have been learning.  The dates for the fall conferences will be Monday and Tuesday, October 12th and 13th from 3:15-5:45.  Our goal is 100% participation with you and your child.  If for some reason you are unable to attend, we will work with you to find an alternative time.
