Goodall Update 9-10-15

September 10, 2015 
We hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!  Welcome back! 
Homework- Goodall homework folders will be coming home this Thursday for the first time.  They are due back to your child’s homebase teacher the following Tuesday.  If you have a Shoot, the folder is yellow and if you have a Root, the folder is green.  Please set aside time to work with your child on their homework.  All the work needs to be in their handwriting.  If you have any questions, please contact one of the Goodall teachers.
MAP testing- All Goodalls are required to take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test in reading and math.  This is a computer administered test and will be taking place between September 9th and September 22ndPlease talk to your child about how important it is to take their time and to focus on the test.  
Literacy Night…is being held on Tuesday, September 15th.  The theme is “Reading Under the Stars”.  See attached flyer for more details.
Reminder!  Our first field trip is next Friday, September 18thWe will be traveling to Skateland at 11th and Sheridan.  We will leave Mayo at 9:30 and return at 1:30.  Your child needs to bring a sack lunch or fill out the paper attached to order a lunch from the cafeteria.  Lunch and balance activities will at Braden Park from 11:45 to 1:00.

Science:  Balance and Motion- Your child will be making mobiles throughout this week to show their knowledge of balance.  
Roots Math:  Number Sense and Addition Problems with Sums to 20  
Shoots Math: Addition Strategies (doubles, near doubles, making groups of ten)

We hope that everyone is receiving the Goodall newsletter.  We will still be sending a hardcopy in the home and backs for the next few weeks.

Volunteers Needed!- We still need volunteers to assemble homework folders and complete book orders.  Please talk to a Goodall teacher if you are interested.
