TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) today announced the launch of the Golden Apple Award, an educator recognition program presented in partnership with Cox and Fox 23. The Golden Apple Award will honor outstanding TPS teachers for exceptional work to advance student achievement.

“I am thrilled that Fox 23 and Cox are joining Tulsa Public Schools to recognize and honor the outstanding men and women who do such important work every day,” said Superintendent Gist. “We really can’t thank our teachers enough, and the Golden Apple Award is a great way to highlight the incredible work happening in classrooms throughout our district.”

All Tulsans are invited to submit nominations online at www.fox23.com/goldenapple. Golden Apple winners will be awarded in their classrooms during a surprise visit from TPS Superintendent Deborah A. Gist, Fox23 anchor Ron Terrell, representatives from the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association and Cox Communications. Honorees will each receive a Golden Apple trophy and a $250 grant to be used in the classroom. Golden Apple winners will be featured weekly during the Saturday morning newscast on FOX23 starting on October 3, 2015

“We think this is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our teachers and give the public a glimpse at the talent in TPS,” said Shawna Mott-Wright, vice president of Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association.

“Cox is proud to be a partner in recognizing the outstanding work happening in Tulsa’s classrooms. Our company is rooted in education and has a longstanding commitment to building innovation and ingenuity in our schools.  We applaud these teachers for creating 21st century classrooms,” said Tiffani Bruton, director of public affairs for Cox Communications.
