Armstrong Update 1-28-16

Greetings Armstrong Parents!

I hope this week is finding everyone well!  Tomorrow and Friday are the days for our Crystal Bridges field trip!! Please check below for last minute information on those trips and pay special attention to anything you see in bold.  And always, if you have any questions please email your child’s homebase teacher, Mrs. Smith, or myself.

Some FYIs:

-              Reminder: during dismissal, if you pick your student up, you should always enter through the North cafeteria door and exit through the South cafeteria door.  This allows for the safety of everyone and is not meant to inconvenience anyone.  Thanks for your cooperation and consideration.

-              Another reminder: there is NO GUM allowed at school. Sadly, this is still happening!!!  PLEASE make sure your student doesn’t have any when they come to school.

-              Please remember to return your home ‘n backs to the tubs in the cafeteria or the front lobby.  On Monday, the students without envelopes were given paper copies of the Home N’ Backs and it was a LOT of Armstrongs.  We reminded the students how much time and effort are put into these every week and I know the volunteers that do it would love if all the envelopes came back.  Please make sure to get these returned every week sometime before Thursday morning.  There is a tub in the office and one in the cafeteria where you can drop them.  Thanks so much!

-              Don’t forget to check the lost & found and the lunchbox table on a regular basis!

-              Friendship Party Candy Gram Sales start next week! See the attached flyer for information on when, where and how to buy candy grams.

-              Another 5th Grade babysitting night is coming up just in time for Valentine’s Day! See the attached information on how to sign up your child for a fun night at Mayo to help support our 5th grade and so you can have a night out!

Crystal Bridges :

January 28th (Thursday)- Hewitt, Moore, Najera

January 29th (Friday)- Molina, Smith, Guss

Tomorrow and Friday we will be taking a blue bus to Bentonville Arkansas and leaving as close to 7:45 as we can and returning before the end of the day.  PLEASE make sure your student is able to get to school on time on their day! We will not be able to wait and they may get left behind.  Thank you to those of you who volunteered to join us on this trip, if you plan on coming and have not emailed Mrs. Moore or Mrs. Smith, please do so ASAP. Volunteers will need to either ride the bus or drive separately and will need to bring their own sack lunch.  Students are being provided lunch and won’t need one (unless they have a medical reason on file that states that they can’t have what is being provided).

Biztown –

February 8th: Najera, Hewitt, Moore Homebases

February 9th: Smith, Guss, Molina Homebases

We officially have all of the parent volunteers that are needed for both triads. Thank you so much to all those who have volunteered, we really appreciate your help! You child should have successfully completed their interviews and will be receiving their job placement on Monday. The first triad voted on their Mayor this week and we want to say congratulations to Elizabeth Scheer who will be our Mayor on February 8th!  The other triad will be holding elections tomorrow.  The students have done such a good job at being humble and gracious losers- they really deserve a lot of praise for that, especially those that lost in the Mayor race for the first triad today.  Thanks to parents who helped their student’s campaign!

If you received confirmation about volunteering at Biztown, you will need to visit https://www.juniorachievement.org/web/ja-ok/ja-biztown-volunteer for your required training before the day of the field study.  If you cannot accomplish this before then please contact a teacher and they can help you.

Living Museum – Living Museum assignments were handed out and students began their research before the Winter Break. We will be putting our research on hold until after our visit to JA Biztown and then we will begin back in full swing. All students will have ample amount of time in their year-long theme class rotation to research their assigned person, however; research outside of school if also encouraged if you are able, but not required.

This project will culminate in a presentation and a five paragraph essay that will be written in your child’s literacy class. For the presentation your child will be required to make a tri-fold poster (this will be completed at school) and they will also be required to dress up as their person (this will be completed at home). There will be more details coming home about costume requirements the closer we get to our presentations. The Living Museum Presentations will be held on March 4th. There will be a schedule sent home of times beforehand and we are encouraging all parents to come and visit if they are able. Please let Mrs. Moore or Mrs. Smith know if you have any questions.

Overnight in OKC- Our Armstrong overnight (for all Armstrongs) is quickly approaching as well.  We will be going to OKC on February 18th and 19th.  We have just finished nailing down all the details and have attached a form with all the information (which will also go home in the Home N’ Backs tomorrow).  Please fill this form out and send it back ASAP.  We need to know numbers as soon as we can so we can buy food and book spaces.  Keep in mind that we encourage and appreciate any adults that can attend; in fact, these overnights wouldn’t happen without all the awesome support we get from parents, but we do ask that siblings stay home.  Thanks for all you do!

IMPORTANT 5TH GRADE INFORMATION:
