-Bring back your home n’ backs empty please! Turn it in the bucket in the office or the bucket in the cafeteria.

-Make sure your paperwork for the Helmzar Ropes Course and Tulsa Air and Space Museum have been turned in!! They are attached (along with the 5th grade contract) and need to be printed, signed, and returned immediately if you haven’t already done so.  The teachers also sent hard copies home today with those students who were still missing theirs, please check with your child when they get home today.

-5th Grade Chocolate sales have started! The 5th graders are selling chocolate for $1 apiece before and after school.

-Family parties are coming up!!! If you have signed up to help at parties you should’ve received an e-mail from Marissa Douthit; if not you can e-mail her at: mayofamilyparent@aol.com

Please read carefully because we have added some new information and dates!

Miles for Mayo Jog-a-thon – Tomorrow is our Miles for Mayo-Made in the Shade jog-a-thon!  The Armstrong area will jog at 8:30 and will be done around 9:15.  We would love to have parents come cheer us on!  Mayo students may wear athletic pants or shorts (weather and school appropriate) for the day.  Everyone will get a new Miles for Mayo shirt that they will change into that morning before Celebrations!  Please make sure your child has the correct footwear for jogging. All pledge envelopes should be returned to school on the day of the event. Any direct donations that you have already collected will be removed and tallied, the envelope will be marked with the number of laps run, and the envelope will be returned for additional donations. Thanks for your support!

Fall Break- Next week is a short week!!!  The students will come to school Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and will be out of school Thursday and Friday (October 15th and 16th) and also the following Monday (October 19th)

Student Led Conferences – I can’t believe it, but our Fall Student-Led conferences are just around the corner! At Mayo, we have student-led conferences; it is an opportunity for your child to show you what they have been learning in their classes. Our conferences this year will be held on Monday, Oct. 12th and Tuesday, Oct. 13th. Come to the Armstrong area between 3:15 and 5:45 to have your child lead your through their classes and talk with their teachers about any questions or concerns you may have. If you are unable to make it please e-mail a teacher and sign-up for a time to come after school one day and have your student show you what they’ve learned.

Tulsa Ballet for 5th Grade –The Tulsa Ballet offers free tickets to 5th grade students in TPS who have attended this field study and we are fortunate enough to have some tickets available for Mayo students. The students must go to the ballet accompanied by an adult, so those who are interested will receive 2 tickets, one for you and one for your child. We have a limited number of tickets to give away so this will be on a first come, first served basis. There are going to be several other ballets throughout the year, the first one is The Taming of the Shrew on October 22nd, so if you cannot make this one there will be other opportunities coming up  If you are interested please email Mrs. Smith or Mrs. Moore. We have only heard back from a couple of parents!!! This would be an amazing experience that you should definitely participate in if you have the chance!

Literacy Homework – Remember that homework is due TOMORROW. The students need to read their novel in its entirety and complete ONE choice board option. The novel should be returned on the due date. Please email Mrs. Hewitt, Mr. Najera or Mr. Guss if you have any questions. Remember if the book is lost you and your student are responsible for obtaining a copy for our student to complete their homework and the lost book will need to be replaced.

Science Homework - Science homework is changing with the change in the schedule.  Students will receive their assigned pages on the Friday of their science week and they will be due the Monday of their next science week. Essentially they will have 2 weeks to complete the work. We are working on getting books for the few students that do not have them yet. Please refer any questions to Mrs. Hewitt or Mr. Guss. The current homework due: 4th grade will need to do pages 255-259 and 260-265 and 5th grade will do pages 185-186 and 192-197.

Social Studies Homework – Please be checking your emails regularly for information about Social Studies homework from your child’s Social Studies teacher.

TASM Field Study – The field study to the Tulsa Air and Space Museum is coming up on October 26th (it will be here before you know it!).  We aren’t sure of a time yet, but would love parents to come with us.  We also aren’t sure if parents will need to pay or not, but if they do, the maximum expense would be $8 and we would need everyone to drive themselves (or carpool).  Once again, as we get closer to this date I will send home more information.  Attached is a release form required by the Tulsa Air and Space Museum (TASM). Please fill out and send back ASAP. It should also be coming home as a hard copy in this week’s home and back.

5th Grade Parents:
-WE NEED EVERY FIFTH GRADER TO DONATE ONE BAG OF MIXED/VARIETY CANDY FOR THE FALL CARNIVAL AND FOR FALL PARTIES CANDY-GRAMS, if you have not already done so. PLEASE TAKE THESE BAGS TO MRS. MOORE OR MRS. SMITH. Thank you to those that have brought them!!!

-5th Grade Trip Fundraising Meeting – We had a meeting this Monday to discuss the Fall Carnival; I sent out an e-mail with the notes from our meeting for those who weren’t able to attend.  Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 4th at 6:30PM in Mrs. Moore’s area. We will be discussing upcoming fundraisers and possible trip dates. If you are unable to make it and have any ideas, please email Mrs. Moore (mooreco2@tulsaschools.org), Mr. Guss (gussal@tulsaschools.org) and Mrs. Smith (embryel@tulsaschools.org). A sign-up sheet for the carnival (both a student and parent one) was sent home with home n’ backs today.  Please fill this out and send it back to school ASAP.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to email your child’s homebase teacher, myself (mooreco2@tulsaschools.org) or Mrs. Smith (embryel@tulsaschools.org). I hope everyone has a great weekend!
