Edison Update 9-29-2016

Dear Edison families,

Your student should have come home yesterday with  their new Edison T-Shirt. The shirt was designed by a Goodall parent. THANK YOU Mrs. Deanna Taylor with Priddy Please Designs. This shirt will be worn for all future Edison Field Studies. We did NOT order any extras, so please be very careful with the one you received. Students will need to wear it next Wednesday, October 5th, for our fair Field Study.

FAIR FIELD STUDY: Our field study to the Herding Dog Show at the Fair is Wednesday, October 5th. Student admission is free, but adults who plan to join us will need to pay their own admission ($8). We are taking one bus, and have no idea where we park, so if you are attending, it would be a good idea to follow us. We will leave Mayo at 8:45am and arrive at the fair at 9am. We will return back to Mayo in time for specials and family. Please remember to send a sack lunch with your child that morning. We did NOT receive any sack lunch request forms for the cafeteria. Also, please do NOT send any money or purchase anything for any students while we are at the fair. We want to avoid hurt feelings or awkward situations. Reminder: No siblings should come along. This is a field study for Edisons and Edison parents only.

We have confirmed our next field study to the Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma City. We will travel on Friday, October 14th. We will leave Mayo at 8am and return in time to dismiss students in the cafeteria. Please be respectful and arrive to school on time, so we may stay on schedule. We will request sack lunches from the cafeteria for every student. If you would rather pack your child’s lunch, please let us know by October 5th.

Thank you to everyone who “picked” an apple at Back to School night and sent the items listed on them.  If you did not get to pick an apple but would like to provide something for the classroom, we would love several easy-to-care-for plants for the Edison area.  If you could provide one, please let us know!  Thanks J

Regarding curriculum:

In literacy, we are delving into our Partners with Paws curriculum!  We are reading Balto, Magic Tree House’s Dogs in the Dead of night, and Stone Fox.  Students should be able to talk to you about these books and tell you some facts about working dogs.

Most students have a good grasp of place value to the hundred thousand place.  We are beginning to work on rounding numbers to the nearest ten, 2d and 3d shapes, and their attributes.  To help work on rounding, you could ask your child questions like: “What two tens does the number 33 come between?”  “Which of those tens is it closer to?”
