Einstein Update 9-22-2016

All money for admission to the Tulsa State Fair is due TOMORROW!

·        Library books are due tomorrow. Please have your Einstein return their library books to their homebase teacher.
·        We need your help!  A fun learning activity for your family to do together is to cut letters out of magazines, sale ads and the newspaper.  Letters can be any size, color, lowercase, uppercase or font.  Have your child name the letter, tell you the sound, name an object that starts with that letter as you cut them out.   Bring your cut out letters to your homebase teacher; we will be using these letters to build words at our creative writing shelf.
·        At Mayo, we believe in whole brain learning through exploration and hands on activities. Research has shown that children, at this age, learn more through play and creative experiences rather than rote memorization of facts and worksheets. In the Einstein Area, we provide these experiences in whole group instruction, learning centers (blocks, pretend center, manipulatives, creative writing shelf, etc.) and various Being There Experiences throughout the year. If you would like to read about the approach we are using in our learning, click on the link below for more information about learning through play. http://www.earlychildhoodnews.com/earlychildhood/article_view.aspx?ArticleID=134
·        Curriculum Update! We have been focusing on school procedures, building classroom community, and how to make and keep good friends. Throughout the year, we will be discussing Needs vs. Wants. We are beginning to discuss that needs are what everyone must have to stay alive and wants are things that are nice to have to enrich your life. Our first “need” that we will discover and explore is food. Where does it come from? How do we get food? What foods do you like? What kind of food does your family like to eat? Our focus at the Tulsa State Fair for our Being There Experience will be food, animals and products of the farm.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email your child’s homebase teacher.
