Einstein Update 9-15-2016

Einstein News
September 15, 2016

·        Welcome Miss Pipkin! We are happy to share with you our newest team member! Jocelyn Pipkin will be working with Mrs. Regnier in the red area. Miss Pipkin has subbed for many years at Mayo and is a familiar face to the Einsteins. We are very happy to have her as part of our team!

·        Library books are due tomorrow. Please have your Einstein return their library books to their homebase teacher.

·        Arrival Procedures-Please do not leave the cafeteria in the morning until you are dismissed. Einstein teachers have morning duty throughout the week and are not always in their classroom to monitor students. Einsteins with parents will be dismissed to class first by a Mayo staff member. Please do not come down to the room before that time. If you drop your child off at the front of the school, please make sure they go to the cafeteria and wait to be dismissed by an adult.

·        Brainbreak and Toys- Einsteins may bring a small stuffed animal to hug during brainbreak. Many Einsteins have been bringing large stuffed animals or Barbie dolls and are playing with them during this time. We also have Einsteins that are coming to school with toy cars, Pokemon cards, Lego people, etc. and taking them out of their backpack/pocket to play with during the day. Please make sure these items are staying at home for your Einstein to play with after school.

·        Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) – Next week second year Einsteins will complete MAP testing sessions to assess Reading and Mathematics skills.  Many second years have taken at least one of the sections. When taking the MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions.  As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult.  If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier.  Students will repeat the tests two more times during the year to continually assess student progress. We will share these scores with you once they are made available.

·        Tulsa State Fair Field Study – Our fair field study is quickly approaching! We need your help! If you plan to join us, please let your homebase teacher know. If you will be joining us, please turn in your $6 to your homebase teacher before September 23. If you do not give money by that date, you will have to pay $10 at the gate for your admission. Each volunteer will be given a list of activities/exhibits to visit and engage in with your teacher assigned group. Just as a reminder, we will not be purchasing anything (i.e. food, toys, games, rides, etc.) for ourselves or the Einsteins. If you wish to continue your fair family fun, you may sign out your Einstein with their homebase teacher before we load the buses.

·        Fall Pictures- Fall pictures are September 22. These pictures will be taken in Mayo uniform. A free dress picture day is scheduled for later this year. Your Einstein should be bringing home an order form today. Please turn in all order forms with money to the office or your homebase teacher.

·        The Mayo staff will be hosting a Literacy Night next Tuesday, September 20th.  Please join us at 6:30 for an evening of fun.  After a read aloud time, you will be able to roam around getting ideas that you can use at home to enhance your child’s literacy skills.  We hope to see you there!

·        Be sure to read the attached Mayo Newsletter for all kinds of information on activities going on at our awesome school!
